According to a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the number of workers who were dismissed or had their hiring suspended due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection reached 64,439 (including prospects) as of September 23rd.  The survey includes statistics up until September 18th.

By industry, the restaurant industry posted the most job losses for the first time, surpassing the hotel industry and the manufacturing industry, which had been leading up until now. A person in charge of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said, "The difficult situation continues in a wide range of industries."

By prefecture, Tokyo had the largest number of lost jobs at 15,745, more than double the number as of July 22 (7,575) two months ago. This is followed by Osaka (5388) and Aichi (3273). By employment type (May 25th to September 18th), the number of non-regular employees reached 29,096.

The number of workers that were dismissed or had their hiring suspended by the coronavirus has not stopped increasing since it exceeded 10,000 in late May.
