Someone whose job is to discover what has happened in a crime or other situation and to find the people involved.  A detective is part of a police force or a private detective. 
犯罪(はんざい)やその他(た)の状況(じょうきょう)で何(なに)が起(お)こったのかを発見(はっけん)し、関係(かんけい)者(しゃ)を見(み)つけることを仕事(しごと)としている人(ひと)。探偵(たんてい)は警察(けいさつ)隊(たい)の一部(いちぶ)である場合(ばあい)とまたは私立(しりつ)探偵(たんてい)の場合(ばあい)があります。
