To have a strong or persistent desire; yearn.  "A hankering", which transforms the verb into a noun,  is a colloquial way of saying that someone hankers, or desires, for something.
強(つよ)いまたは永続(えいぞく)的(てき)な欲求(よっきゅう)を持(も)つこと。憧(あこが)れ、動詞(どうし)から名詞(めいし)に変換(へんかん)された「ハンカリング」は、誰(だれ)かが何(なに)かを切望(せつぼう)したり、欲(ほ)しがったりすることを口語(こうご)的(てき)に言(い)う方法(ほうほう)です。
