(1) Noun :

A proposed law or bill submitted to a government legislature (such as a congress or senate) by groups of individuals that are are advocates of what is contained in the proposal, and officially empowered to enact laws. In a democracy like in the United States, multiple legislative bodies must ratify legislation before it is presented to the president for his signature.  


Examples

  • The legislation was stalled in Congress for six months by politicians that were not willing to compromise.
