The amabie is a monster that resembles a mermaid/merman, but instead of one tail it has three! The amabie is known to only emerge from the sea when it foresees an epidemic or in some cases an abundant harvest. The amabie has become the unofficial mascot of the corona virus in Japan. You can see it on posters, hand sanitizer bottles, and in Aomori they even made it into a Nebuta decoration.
The amabie image was adopted by Japan Airlines, and is featured on the undercarriage of some of its aircraft. Jets with this insignia are known by this name.
