Smile.  The primary meaning is a smile that indicates great happiness.  But, grin can have a negative connotation.   It's sometimes used in place of "smirk," which is an offensive smile.  A smile is always supposed to be a positive thing, but a grin is often ambiguous.
スマイル。主(おも)な意味(いみ)は、大(おお)きな幸(しあわ)せを示(しめ)す笑顔(えがお)です。しかし、grinの笑(わら)いは否定(ひてい)的(てき)な意味合(いみあ)いを持(も)つことができます。不快(ふかい)な笑顔(えがお)である「smirk」の代(か)わりに使(つか)われることがあります。smileは常(つね)に前向(まえむ)きなものであるはずですが、grinはしばしば曖昧(あいまい)です。
