動詞の後の前置詞

A2 英検準2級 初中級

verb + preposition + object

説明

Some verbs need a preposition after them.

For example, "I listen to music in the morning." Here, "listen" is the verb, "to" is the preposition, and "music" is the object. The words work together as one fixed pattern, so you cannot usually leave out "to." In Japanese, you say "音楽を聞く," so the extra English word is easy to forget. Other verbs use different prepositions, like "wait for" and "agree with."

例文

  • I listen to music in the morning. 私は朝に音楽を聞きます。
  • She talked to her boss yesterday. 彼女は昨日、上司と話しました。
  • We waited for the bus for ten minutes. 私たちは10分間バスを待ちました。
  • Do you agree with this plan? あなたはこの計画に賛成ですか。
  • He does not belong to this team. 彼はこのチームに所属していません。
  • They are looking at the new house now. 彼らは今、新しい家を見ています。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often drop the preposition after the verb.

Wrong: "I listen music."

Right: "I listen to music."

They may also add a preposition that the verb does not need.

Wrong: "I discussed about it."

Right: "I discussed it."
