Future Continuous

B1 Eiken 2 Intermediate

will be + verb-ing

Explanation

Use the future continuous for an action that will be in progress at a future time. The form is "will be" + verb-ing.

For example, "I will be working tomorrow morning." Here "I" is the subject, "will be working" shows the action will be happening over a period of time, and "tomorrow morning" gives the future time. Japanese often says "明日の朝は仕事をしています" or "仕事をしているでしょう". In English, you need both "will" and "be" before the -ing verb.

Examples

  • I will be working tomorrow morning. 私は明日の朝、仕事をしているでしょう。
  • Will you be using the car tonight? 今夜、車を使っていますか。
  • This time next week, we will be flying to Okinawa. 来週の今ごろ、私たちは沖縄へ向かって飛行機に乗っているでしょう。
  • She will not be coming to the meeting. 彼女はその会議には来ないでしょう。
  • They will be staying at a small hotel near the station. 彼らは駅の近くの小さなホテルに泊まっているでしょう。
  • I think it will be raining later. あとで雨が降っていると思います。

Common Mistakes

Japanese learners often forget "be" and say "I will working tomorrow." The correct form is "I will be working tomorrow." Remember: future continuous needs "will be" + verb-ing, not just "will" + verb-ing.
