「who」を用いた関係代名詞節

B1 英検2級 中級

noun + who + clause

説明

Use "who" after a noun when you want to say more about a person. The clause with "who" tells us which person you mean.

For example, "The woman who works here is very kind." In this sentence, "The woman" is the main noun. "who works here" tells us which woman. "is very kind" gives the main information about her. Japanese often says this idea before the noun, like "ここで働いている女性". English puts the extra information after the noun.

例文

  • The woman who works here is very kind. ここで働いている女性はとても親切です。
  • I have a friend who speaks Japanese. 日本語を話す友達がいます。
  • Do you know the boy who sits by the window? 窓のそばに座っている男の子を知っていますか。
  • We need someone who can drive. 運転できる人が必要です。
  • I don't know anyone who likes cold coffee. 冷たいコーヒーが好きな人は誰も知りません。
  • The teacher who taught me English moved to Osaka. 英語を教えてくれた先生は大阪に引っ越しました。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often leave out "who" and write "I have a friend speaks Japanese." In English, you need "who" here: "I have a friend who speaks Japanese." Also, use "who" for people, not "which".
