説明
A transitive verb needs an object after it. The object is the person or thing that receives the action.
In "She reads a book every night," "She" is the subject, "reads" is the transitive verb, and "a book" is the object. "Every night" tells us when she reads. In Japanese, the object is often easy to leave out, but English usually needs it after a transitive verb.
他動詞は、後ろに目的語が必要です。目的語は、その動作の相手や対象です。
例えば "She reads a book every night." では、"She" が主語、"reads" が他動詞、"a book" が目的語です。"every night" は「いつ読むか」を表しています。日本語では目的語を省略しやすいですが、英語では他動詞の後に目的語を入れるのが普通です。
例文
- I like coffee. 私はコーヒーが好きです。
- She reads a book every night. 彼女は毎晩本を読みます。
- We bought a new car. 私たちは新しい車を買いました。
- Do you need a pen? ペンが必要ですか。
- Please close the door. ドアを閉めてください。
- He doesn't eat meat. 彼は肉を食べません。
よくある間違い
Japanese learners often leave out the object. For example, "I bought yesterday." is wrong. Say "I bought a new notebook yesterday." Instead, keep the object after the transitive verb.
日本語では目的語を省略できることが多いので、英語でも落としてしまいがちです。例えば "I bought yesterday." は不自然です。"I bought a new notebook yesterday." のように、他動詞の後に目的語を入れます。
