説明
Use the past simple to talk about a finished action in the past. The verb changes to show past time.
For example, "I visited my grandmother yesterday." Here "I" is the subject, "visited" is the past verb, and "yesterday" tells us when it happened. The action is complete, so it is not happening now. In Japanese, you often add "〜た" and a time word, but English shows the past in the verb itself.
過去形は、すでに終わった出来事を言うときに使います。動詞の形を変えて、過去の話だと示します。
たとえば "I visited my grandmother yesterday." では、"I" が主語、"visited" が過去形の動詞、"yesterday" がいつ起きたかを示しています。この行動はもう終わっているので、今のことではありません。日本語では「〜た」と時を表す言葉を足しますが、英語では動詞そのものが過去を表します。

よくある間違い
Japanese learners often keep the verb in the present form with a past time word, like "I go to Kyoto yesterday." It should be "I went to Kyoto yesterday." Another common mistake is saying "Did you went?" after "did." Use the base verb: "Did you go?"
日本人学習者は、過去の時間を言っているのに動詞を現在形のまま使いがちです。たとえば "I go to Kyoto yesterday." は誤りで、正しくは "I went to Kyoto yesterday." です。また、"did" の後に過去形を置いてしまい、"Did you went?" と言うこともよくあります。"did" の後は原形なので、"Did you go?" が正しいです。
