未来の予定を表す現在進行形

A2 英検準2級 初中級

am/is/are + verb-ing

説明

Use the present continuous for a future plan that is already arranged. The plan is usually fixed, and both people know about it.

For example, "I'm meeting Ken after school." Here "I'm" is "I am," and "meeting" is the -ing form of the verb. The time phrase "after school" shows that this is a future arrangement, not something happening now. Japanese often says "〜する予定" or "〜することになっている," and English often uses the verb form instead of a separate word for "plan."

例文

  • I'm meeting Ken after school. 放課後にケンに会う予定です。
  • We're having dinner with my parents tonight. 今夜は両親と夕食を食べる予定です。
  • She's flying to Osaka next Monday. 彼女は来週の月曜日に大阪へ行きます。
  • Are you working on Saturday? 土曜日は働く予定ですか。
  • I'm not going to the party tomorrow. 明日のパーティーには行きません。
  • The train is leaving at 8:10. その電車は8時10分に出発します。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often use the present simple for a fixed future plan, for example, "I meet Ken after school." In natural English, use the present continuous: "I'm meeting Ken after school." Do not forget the -ing form, and use a future time word like "tomorrow" or "next week" when needed.
