「-er」で終わる比較級形容詞

A2 英検準2級 初中級

short adjective + -er + than

説明

Use "-er" with short adjectives to compare two things.

In "This room is bigger than that one," "This room" is the thing we talk about, and "is" links it to the adjective. "Bigger" is the comparative form of "big," so it shows a difference in size. "Than that one" shows what we are comparing with. Japanese often uses "より" and keeps the adjective the same, but English changes the adjective word itself.

例文

  • My bag is lighter than yours. 私のかばんはあなたのより軽いです。
  • This room is bigger than that one. この部屋はあの部屋より広いです。
  • Is your phone newer than mine? あなたのスマホは私のより新しいですか。
  • Today is colder than yesterday. 今日は昨日より寒いです。
  • This road is not wider than the other road. この道はもう一方の道より広くありません。
  • Her brother is taller than she is. 彼女のお兄さんは彼女より背が高いです。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often add "more" with short adjectives, like "This room is more bigger than that one." The correct form is "This room is bigger than that one." Do not use both "more" and "-er" together.
