good → better than; bad → worse than; far → farther/further than

説明

Use these forms when you compare two things. For "good," the comparative is "better"; for "bad," it is "worse"; for "far," it is often "farther" or "further."

In "My new phone is better than my old one," "My new phone" is the thing we compare, "is" links the subject to the adjective, "better" shows the comparison, and "than my old one" gives the second thing. Japanese often says "前のものよりいい" or "もっといい," but English does not say "more good" or "gooder." The same idea works with "worse" and "farther": English changes the adjective itself.

例文

  • This cake is better than that one.
  • Her score is worse than mine.
  • My cold is not better yet.
  • Is your English better now?
  • The traffic is worse after 6 p.m.
  • My house is farther from the station than yours.

Japanese learners often say "more better" or "gooder."

Wrong: "This bag is more better than mine."

Right: "This bag is better than mine."
