NoとNoneの使用法の比較

B1 英検2級 中級

no + noun / none / none of + noun

説明

Use "no" before a noun when you mean zero of that thing. Use "none" when you do not want to repeat the noun, or in "none of + noun".

For example, "I have no money." Here "I" is the subject, "have" shows possession, and "no money" means zero money. In Japanese, you often say "お金がありません" or "お金はないです", but English usually needs "no" or "none" to show the zero amount clearly.

Compare "No students were late." with "None of the students were late." The first puts "no" before the noun "students". The second uses "none" to replace the noun and add "of the students". Both mean there were zero late students.

例文

  • I have no time today. 今日は時間がありません。
  • There is no milk in the fridge. 冷蔵庫に牛乳がありません。
  • Do you have any friends here? No, none. ここに友達はいますか。いいえ、誰もいません。
  • None of the tickets are left. チケットは一枚も残っていません。
  • No students were absent yesterday. 昨日、欠席した学生は一人もいませんでした。
  • There are no good seats, so we should stand. いい席がないので、立っていましょう。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners mistakenly say "I have none money" or "None money is left." Use "no" before a noun: "I have no money." Use "none" alone, or "none of + noun": "None of the money is left." Another common mistake is dropping the article in the wrong place and saying "No the students came." The correct form is "No students came" or "None of the students came."
