Explanation
Dynamic verbs show actions, movement, or change. They often work with "be + verb-ing" when the action is happening now.
For example, "She is cooking dinner now." "She" is the subject, "is cooking" shows the action in progress, "dinner" is the object, and "now" tells us the time. Japanese often says "今〜しています," but English still needs the "-ing" form to show the action is happening. You can also use dynamic verbs for habits, like "I run every morning."
dynamic verbs は、動作・移動・変化を表す動詞です。今起きている動作では、"be + verb-ing" とよく一緒に使います。
たとえば "She is cooking dinner now." です。ここでは "She" が主語、"is cooking" が進行中の動作、"dinner" が目的語、"now" が時間を表します。日本語では「今〜しています」と言いますが、英語では "-ing" で「今している最中」をはっきり示します。
Examples
- I run every morning. 私は毎朝走ります。
- She is cooking dinner now. 彼女は今、夕食を作っています。
- They are playing soccer in the park. 彼らは公園でサッカーをしています。
- Are you watching TV? テレビを見ていますか。
- He doesn't drive to work. 彼は車で仕事に行きません。
- The children are building a sandcastle at the beach. 子どもたちは浜辺で砂の城を作っています。
Common Mistakes
Japanese learners often write "I go to the station now." when they mean an action in progress. The right form is "I'm going to the station now." because a dynamic verb in progress needs "be + verb-ing."
日本語の「今〜している」をそのまま現在形で言ってしまうことがあります。たとえば "I go to the station now." は不自然で、正しくは "I'm going to the station now." です。今進んでいる動作なら、動詞を "be + -ing" の形にします。
